A Great Place to live & play!
To experience nature at its greatest, we
invite you to visit Sandstone located on the banks of the
picturesque Kettle River just off Interstate 35 and midway
between the Twin Cities and Duluth. Established in
1889, the city has a rich history built around sandstone
quarries and river life. Today, the community is proud
of its vast natural amenities that provide year-round
recreational opportunities. Sandstone is the gateway
to Banning State Park & Robinson Park. The Kettle
River, the first designated Wild & Scenic by the State of
Minnesota, runs through Banning & Robinson Parks.
White water enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking and canoeing on
the river. Quarry ruins in these two parks provide a
sense of the area's history. The beautiful mix of
hardwood trees, towering pines, the Kettle River and
sandstone bluffs provide a picture setting for those who
enjoy the outdoors. Living in Sandstone is like living
in a park. The city is surrounded by over 3,000 acres
of State and National Wildlife Refuge, 6,200 acres of State
Park land, 500 acres of National Audubon Society land and
many acres of city parks. The Kettle River, many area
lakes and public land render excellent fishing, hunting,
cross country skiing, snowmobiling, camping and many other
outdoor sporting activities. |
