Moose Lake

Land of Agates

A friendly moose welcomes you to Moose Lake and all it has to offer.  The Moose Lake Chamber of Commerce invites you to explore the area's recreational opportunities and beauty.  Moose Lake was one of many towns developed on the railroad after it came through in 1870.  The city was incorporated in 1889, and has grown to a population of over 2,000.  A devastating fire swept through northeastern Minnesota on October 12, 1918.  24 years after the Great Hinckley Fire, destroying the cities of Moose Lake & Cloquet as well as many other communities.  Visit the Moose Lake Depot and Fires of 1918 Museum to learn about the fire.  Moose Lake is the crossroads of a recreational trail system for hiking, biking, in-line skating, four-wheeling and snowmobiling.  The Willard Munger State Trail passes through Moose Lake intersecting with the Soo Line Trail.  The Portage Trail opened in 2001 connecting the Soo and Munger trails with the Moose Lake State Park, which offers camping, swimming and miles of cross-country ski trails.  Moose Lake is located on I-35 1-1/2 hours north of the Twin Cities and 45 minutes south of Duluth.
