Askov
Askov is located on Highway 23 or the
Evergreen Memorial Highway, the scenic route to Duluth.
With a population 376 Askov also has a quality of life that
can’t be matched in larger cities. There are two city
parks, a recreational vehicle park with hookups for
electricity, water & sewer. Tennis and Basketball courts,
playgrounds & bicycling areas can also be found in and
around the Askov area. The Kettle River runs through near
by Banning State Park. Camping, canoeing & hiking can be
found in the 5246 acre State Park. Banning also holds claim
to some of the most beautiful scenery around with Wolf Creek
Falls and the rapids that flow through the park. Hell's
gate, Blueberry slide & Dragon's Tooth. The City of
Askov is of Danish heritage, founded in 1906 by the Dansk
Folkesamfund even the street signs are in Danish.
Askov celebrates Rutabaga days on the fourth Friday &
Saturday in August. During The Rutabaga festival you can find
fresh
produce, arts & crafts, folk and square dancing, live music
& lots of good food including Aebleskiver which are round
(like a baseball)
